Students in grades 4-6 are invited to read 5 books from the MCBA nominee list and participate in the vote in April 2023!

A complete list of nominees can be found here and public libraries will have these titles on the shelves for you to checkout! Read at least five of the nominees and have your voice heard in the statewide vote!

The reconsideration of library materials procedure relates to the selection, deselection and reconsideration of library materials as recommended by the American Library Association (ALA),Massachusetts Library System (MLS), and in our local library consortium the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium MVLC.

The procedure will:

• Provide a framework for the consistent selection and acquisition of library resources in all formats using a standard set of criteria.

• Ensure a diversity of viewpoints on all topics, including those that may be considered controversial.

• Establish a process by which individuals may share their concerns about library resources in a discussion with a librarian or, if their concerns are unresolved, invoke a formal reconsideration process.

• Affirm the importance of intellectual freedom, referencing key documents such as the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the Library Bill of Rights, and the Freedom to Read Statement.

The technology curriculum trains students to use technology as a tool for writing, research, communication, academic skills development and practice. Computer activities draw on the Massachusetts Technology Literacy Standards, and include keyboarding skills, productivity software application, safety on the internet, integration of digital media, use of communication tools, and understanding basic computer technology. The library has networked workstations with filtered Internet access. Stations are outfitted with a variety of educational software such as typing programs and the Google Apps Suite (Grade 3-6). Additionally, students have access to and are trained on using research databases. In addition to the scheduled computer time, the lab is also used by classroom teachers for special projects such as virtual field trips, research, and writing assignments. All classrooms in grades 1-6 are currently 1:1, meaning each child has a device that is available to them throughout the day.
